Trade Republic Opens a Business Account for German GmbH and UG Owners

Trade Republic has launched its first product for business customers: a “Firmendepot” (Private Holding Account) that lets sole shareholders of a German GmbH or UG invest their company’s assets through the platform. Until now, Trade Republic was open exclusively to private customers.

The business account mirrors the private one on cost: no setup or management fee, and the same €1 flat fee per trade for stocks, ETFs and other instruments. Uninvested cash earns 2.5% annually with no upper limit — matching the rate Trade Republic currently pays private customers in Germany. Trade Republic is also promoting a tax angle: capital gains on shares held by a GmbH can be taxed at an effective rate of roughly 1.5% under German corporate-tax rules, versus the flat 26.375% capital-gains tax individual investors pay.

Eligibility is narrow for now: you must already hold a private Trade Republic account and be the sole shareholder of the GmbH or UG, and you’ll need to link a separate company reference account for money movements — the Firmendepot itself is an investment depot, not a full business current account, so payroll, invoicing and day-to-day transactions still run through your existing business bank account.

What it means for users: if you run a German GmbH or UG and have been parking idle company cash in a low-yield business account, Trade Republic’s Firmendepot is a new option worth comparing against dedicated business-banking neobanks — though it only covers investing and cash parking, not full business banking.
