The MiCA CASP (Crypto-Asset Service Provider) transitional period ended July 1, 2026. ESMA’s public statement confirms that only ~17% of the 1,200+ previously VASP-registered EU crypto firms had converted to full CASP authorisation by the deadline — meaning the large majority are now in a legally ambiguous position where continued operation is uncertain under national competent authority discretion.
For EU neobank customers, this raises an immediate question: which neobanks can still legally offer crypto features in your country?
Revolut, Trade Republic, and (in a minority of markets) other neobanks all offer crypto services to EU customers. As of July 1, only those with a confirmed CASP licence — either their own or through a licensed group entity — can continue operating crypto-asset services without restriction. ESMA has called on non-authorised providers to cease offering crypto-asset services to EU customers.
What we know:
- Revolut: regulatory_status references “MiCA CASP authorisation via Revolut Bank UAB (Bank of Lithuania, 2026)” — we are verifying this against the ESMA/Bank of Lithuania CASP register
- Trade Republic: operates crypto under its banking licence with custodial-only (no external wallet transfers) scope — CASP status under review
- bunq: does not offer crypto services; no CASP authorisation required
What to do: If your neobank has not communicated a CASP licence confirmation to you, check their in-app notices or website disclosure before conducting crypto transactions. We will update this page with confirmed CASP status for each neobank as information becomes available.
